The
Necton’s members, from years are collaborating
whit study of the cetaceans of the strait
(S.C.S) in the recover some loggerhead turtles
(Caretta
caretta);
turtles
liuto (Dermochelis coriacea), death
or in difficulty, a lot often, on the beaches
it is recovered the carcasses of these wonderful
animals, that for natural or artificial
causes are dead in sea, in these cases is
not possible to do nothing, and the only
operations carried out, consist to ascertain
in that manner is dead, some measurings
are carried out, withdrawn some samples
of tissue (for the successive analysis of
laboratory) and take some photo, after it
is provided to the digestion of the carcass
in an authorized incinerator. The data collection
on these animals, are however many important
and allow to understand the causes that
much more torment such species.
Other times instead are recovered still
alive, also in these cases, the animals,
are measured, subsequently photographed,
treated from the veterinarians that collaborate
to this type of projects, marked with of
the recognition’s labels and replaced in
freedom. The greater number of woundings,
is to attribute to the fishing tools , in
special manner to the palangari used in
the fishing to the large pelagici, (tunas;
sword-fish; alalunghe; imperial aguglie
etc. .), because of this tool, every year,
hundred of animals, remain hooked but in
unintentional manner of everything, because
the hook of the palangari are primed, and
the turtles want to nourish itself. Fortunately
however the fishermen collaborate always
of more , with the researchers supporting
to shore and delivering to the competent
authority the injured animals. Other causes
of deaths, are the impacts with the pleasure
boats , that above all in the summer period,
sail to high long speed the ours costs,
in these cases is impossible to intervene
in order to seek to help the animals that
in little time, for the wounds restored
will die in sea. For natural causes, it
is understood the death for old age, for
illness, or for attacks from the predators.
