Sword-fish capture monitoring

For several years Necton has been dealing with a research project aimed
at establishing the real impact of this kind of activity has on the species fished. By using this peculiar and enchanting method fishermen not only capture the sword-fish, but also other species, often disregarded, but also important for the economy and for the sea eco-system. Among the fished species, besides the sword-fish, are the tuna-fish (Tunnus Thynnus), the spearfish (Tetrapturus belone), the lampuga (Coryphena hippurus), the sunfish (Mola mola),and different species of selaci such as: the blue shark (Prionace glauca); the giant devilray (Mobula mobular); the mako (Isurus oxirynchus, photo), the basking shark (Cethorinus maximus)and, in the past, several specimen of the white shark (Carcharodon carcharias).
The reserch made by Necton consists in collecting as many data as possible concerning the sea-weather conditions, the number, the size, the sex, the stomach content, the presence of parasites, the capture frequence of all the captured specie, etc. For this reason, from the beginning of May to the end of August, the Necton researchers are embarked on the feluche.
